Bond cure time is not a technical footnote in high-speed furniture manufacturing and panel processing, it’s a direct cost. A slow setting hot melt results in slower conveyor speeds, work-in-progress builds up, and throughput is reduced in a manner that cannot be recovered at the end of a shift. Low volume operation is possible with standard EVA adhesives. However, after a certain cycle speed, the physics don’t cooperate: initial tack is not sufficient to retain substrates in the next cycle, and heat or humidity breaks bonds that seemed to be good at the press.

The manufacturers that have switched to a fast curing PUR adhesive did not do so because it was new, they did so because the line math wouldn’t work with anything else.

Application Scenarios

Edge Banding—PVC, ABS, Acrylic, Melamine, Veneer High-speed edge banding machines are designed for cycle speeds where consistency is as important as speed. Our fast curing PUR adhesive for edge banding provides a clean glue line, high bonding strength at the edge of the substrate and a finished panel that is resistant to heat and humidity, the two most common reasons for edge lift-off in the field. A stable viscosity of the glue throughout a complete production shift ensures a consistent quality of the glue line.

Flat Lamination—Laminating decorative films, HPL, PVC films or paper foils onto board substrates demands initial tack that is sufficient to prevent film shift, and long-term dimensional stability under temperature and humidity cycling. Our fast curing PUR adhesive provides both — without the surface adhesion issues that thermoplastic hot melt adhesives experience after 12-18 months in the field.

Profile Wrapping—Door Frames, Window Components, Decorative Moldings Profile wrapping is used to apply adhesive to three dimensional profiles to which the film must conform to complex geometry and be under continuous mechanical tension. The cured fast curing PUR adhesive is flexible and resistant to temperature changes and moisture, making it the preferred adhesive for wrapping components in applications where EVA bonding components repeatedly fail.

Furniture Manufacturing—Cabinets, Kitchen Units, Office Furniture Structural cabinet and carcass assembly requires a bond that will withstand over the years under sustained load. Final bond strength is much higher than EVA with fast cure polyurethane reactive adhesive, and heat resistance is important in kitchen installations, moisture resistance is important in bathroom and laundry installations.

Woodworking & Interior Decoration Panels–Our fast curing PUR adhesive is substrate compatible, from wood to plastic, metal, and decorative materials, and can be used in a variety of applications to minimize the number of adhesive products needed on a production floor without compromising bond performance in any application.

Heat resistance: Bonded panels maintain structural integrity in high-temperature applications, such as kitchen furniture near appliances, HVAC adjacent assemblies, and automotive interior parts. Normal EVA hot melt re-softens at more than 80°C. A fast curing PUR adhesive doesn’t.

Permanent structural bond: Not heat-reversible. Once fully cured, the bond created by the fast curing PUR adhesive cannot be softened or repositioned by heat, unlike thermoplastic hot melts.The crosslinked polymer network is able to withstand sustained mechanical loading, thermal cycling and long-term environmental stress, and is the specification standard for furniture OEMs that require field durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this fast curing PUR adhesive compare to EVA hot melt for edge banding?

EVA cures only by cooling and re-melts above about 80 °C. Our fast curing PUR adhesive crosslinks permanently after application, resulting in a final bond strength considerably higher than EVA and a heat resistance threshold of >150°C. The difference for high-speed edge banding lines, or finished panels exposed to heat and humidity in use, shows up in field failure, not lab tests.

What happens if humidity in our facility is below 40% RH?

Below 40% RH moisture reactive cure is slower and full cure can take more than 5 days. Humidity accelerated formulation variants are available for climate-controlled or dry-room production environments. For details, contact us. This is a common requirement for facilities in some climate zones and has a simple solution.

Can this adhesive be applied with our existing equipment?

Most of the time, yes. The main requirement is a melter that can maintain 120–150°C with moisture sealed feed components. Please contact us before ordering with the model of your equipment and we will confirm compatibility direct.

What is the shelf life and how should it be stored?

Stored sealed at 5–25°C away from moisture. 12 months from date of manufacture. Once opened the adhesive begins to react with humidity from the environment – use within the production session and purge the system before shutdown.

Is a trial sample available before committing to a full order?

Yes. Sample quantities shipped to qualified manufacturers. No minimum order no commitment at the sample stage.
