EVA adhesive edge banding
EVA, commonly known as hot melt adhesive, is a plastic material composed of ethylene (E) and vinyl acetate (VA). EVA hot melt adhesive, also known as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, is a solvent-free, water-free, 100% solid, fusible polymer. It is solid at room temperature and becomes light brown, translucent, or off-white when melted.
- Advantages: Low cost, simple process, high popularity; wide application range, can be used with PVC, ABS and other edge banding.
- Disadvantages: Obvious glue line, easy to overflow, easy to crack and fall off in high temperature or humid environment; poor environmental performance, large amount of glue required.
PUR adhesive edge banding
PUR, which stands for Polyurethane Reactive (PUR), can also be called Polyurethane Reactive Hot-Melt Adhesive (Polyurethane Reactive Hot-Melt Adhesive), or “Moisture-Curing Reactive Polyurethane Hot-Melt Adhesive.” Its primary component is an isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer. Its edge sealing principle is simple: after heating and liquefying, the adhesive reacts with moisture on the edge strip, in the air, and on the cut edge of the board, crosslinking and curing, firmly securing the edge strip to the cut edge of the board. Once cooled, the edge is sealed.
PUR edge sealing is significantly more effective than EVA. Its advantages include strong moisture resistance and a wide temperature range (-40°C to 150°C). It is more environmentally friendly than EVA, requires less adhesive, has a shallower glue line, and is highly stable. Its disadvantages are higher price, more complex processing, and irreversibility. Simply put, PUR is more expensive than EVA, but more effective.
Proprietary EVA/PUR glues achieve 99.2% adhesion integrity (ISO 8510-2 tested), resisting humidity, heat (up to 120°C), and mechanical stress.
